TTNZ Website Transition

Our new website, hosted by Sportsground, has been constructed and is currently in 'completion and review' mode. The current website will shortly be 'frozen' (no updates) until it is replaced. The Sportsground website will appear at the existing URL http://www.tabletennis.org.nz/  no later than 10th October. There will be links to the TTNZ Chronicle and TTNZ Archives websites, which will attach a number of pages from the current website.

TTNZ offers profound thanks to Robin Radford for his many years of volunteered dedication in managing TTNZ's website.

Loss of Stalwart Veteran Player

Sadly, Merle Sneddon (nee Rolston) passed away on Tuesday 13th Sept.

Merle was a longstanding member of the table tennis community dating back to the 1960's when she was very active in the open side of the sport in the Waikato area. She was ranked in the NZ Open women several times in late 60's - early 70's, her highest being no 3 in 1968.

In later years she participated in Veteran events in NZ and Australia winning many many age group events - singles and doubles, and mentioned often in the veteran rankings. Merle was a member of the Levin Table Tennis Club and affiliated to the Manawatu Association who she represented at both Veteran and Senior levels with distinction.

This lovely lady will be missed. (Funeral in Levin on Friday 16th 12.30pm Salvation Army Centre Durham St).

(15/8/11) The individual events started today with group play involving all but the top 16 seeds in the men's and women's singles......
(14-15/8/11) Competition started and there was a palpable change in atmosphere as athletes prepare to get down to business. Nowhere is this more obvious than in the dining hall where the noise levels have fallen noticeably and 'game faces' are most definitely on show......
(13/8/11) The day of the Opening Ceremony dawned and brought with it an air of excitement. Throughout the Village there was a camaraderie and shared anticipation that was enlightening. And we were not to be disappointed! ........
(12/8/11) Another busy day at the World University Games. We were unable to train today as the venue is prepared for the Opening Ceremony........
(11/8/11) The team embarked on the long flight to Guangzhou in good spirits with everyone fit, healthy and excited about the event....

Big Rewards for Table Tennis Family

The demands on table tennis parents can be huge, particularly when their children excel in their chosen sport. Just getting them outfitted and transported to training, interclub matches and tournaments is a second job in itself. But, on top of this, there is a large financial and emotional commitment required for them to aspire to ‘be the best’.

Sometimes the rewards make it all seem so worthwhile. Such was the case in the Rao household during the NZ Junior Nationals, held recently at the North Harbour Table Tennis Stadium.

New Website for TTNZ in 2011

After twelve years of diligent and painstaking service our volunteer Website Administrator, Robin Radford, will be venturing from cyberspace to personal space later this year. His efforts and achievements for New Zealand table tennis will be sorely missed. We wish him all the best for the future. Robin will continue to administer the TTNZ Archives and Chronicle websites.

We are looking to launch a Sportsground website in mid-September. A large number of sports bodies and clubs already use Sportsground, including several from table tennis. TTNZ is looking to form a website admin team from volunteers within our sport. Supported by Mandy Burt, Christine Young and myself, this team is expected to comprise three persons, with each assuming primary responsibility for an area. These areas are tentatively:

a) news and calendar updates
b) forms, documents and list and database admin (tournaments, results and venues)
c) player profiles, galleries, sponsors and advertising (HP focus)

Please email expressions of interest to jlea@xtra.co.nz   by June 20th, indicating your capabilities and preferences in terms of the responsibilities outlined. There are some significant tasks to be completed in each area before we can make the transition.
